Activities

General Information Members and non-members are invited to join Sequoia Paddlers [SPS] activities. Non Sierra Club members over the age of 16 years will be asked for a $5 donation per trip. Proof of Sierra Club membership is a current S.C. membership card, a copy of the Sierra Club magazine or a Sierra Club newsletter with mailoing label. All participants must sign a release of liability and assumption of risk form. If you would like to read it in advance go to the "Forms" page on this website. Please contact leader at least 5 days in advance. Do not show up without personally contacting the leader first. River trips are class I unless otherwise noted. Some outings require a particular skill, conditioning or equipment. If in doubt, check with the leader. PFD's (lifejackets) are required on all SPS trips - NO exceptions! The Web Master and SPC assume no responsibility for non-SPS activities and list them as a service to our members. All phone numbers are in the 707 area unless otherwise noted.




SIERRA CLUB ACTIVITIES

Pool Practice Canoe and kayak roll practice. Ridgway Swim Center in Santa Rosa Thurs. 7:15 pm - 8:45 pm. The pool is located on Ridgway Ave off Mendocino right next to Santa Rosa High School. The water is warm but the air is often cold, so wet suits are recommended as well as PFD's and helmets. Paddlers must bring their own clean boats and gear. Instruction is not provided although advice and tips are available for the asking. Showers are available. Cost $5. Co-sponsored by the Sequoia Paddlers and the Santa Rosa Parks & Rec. Dept. NON-SIERRA CLUB ACTIVITIES

Monday, February 13. Delta Area, Consumnes Preserve or Snodgrass Slough, areas which are close together between Sacramento and Lodi in the Valley. These are beautiful areas containing some of the last remains of the original Valley riparian habitats. This will be an easy paddle in protected areas. Saturday, February 25. Napa River , JFK to Cuttings Wharf. From JFK park in Napa south down the Napa River to Cuttings Wharf and back - about 3.5 miles each way. We may detour into marsh areas along the way. Hopefully we will have lunch at Moore's Landing restaurant adjacent to Cuttings Wharf. Join a Park Ranger on a leisurely paddle around Lake Berryessa!
Date/Time: Saturday, March 24th, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Location: Meet at Foxtail Flat Hand Launch Ramp within the Oak Shores Day Use Area.
Experience the beauty of Lake Berryessa from a unique perspective on this Ranger-led paddling tour. Join a Park Ranger for a fun 3-hour paddling trip, exploring the tranquil waters between the shorelines of the Oak Shores and Smittle Creek Day Use Areas and Big and Small Islands. Watch for bald eagles, ospreys, otters, and other wildlife as the ranger introduces you to the natural and human history of the lake. This outing is open to anyone with a kayak, canoe or other non-motorized boat. Coast Guard approved life jackets will be available, but boats will not be available for rent. Participants should bring their boat, life jackets, paddles, sunscreen, hat, water and a lunch/snack. There is no fee for the program or for parking in the day use area.
