General Information
Members and non-members are invited to join Sequoia Paddlers [SPS]
activities. Non Sierra Club members over the age of 16 years will be asked
for a $5 donation per trip. Proof of Sierra Club membership is a current S.C.
membership card, a copy of the Sierra Club magazine or a Sierra Club newsletter
with mailoing label. All participants must sign a release of
liability and assumption of risk form. If you would like to read it in
advance go to the "Forms" page on this website. Please contact leader at
least 5 days in advance. Do not show up without personally contacting the
leader first. River trips are class I
unless otherwise noted. Some outings require a particular skill,
conditioning or equipment. If in doubt, check with the leader. PFD's
(lifejackets) are required on all SPS trips - NO exceptions! The Web Master
and SPC assume no responsibility for non-SPS activities and list them as a
service to our members. All phone numbers are in the 707 area unless
otherwise noted.

Canoe and Kayak Roll Practice. Thursdays, 7 PM ~ 8:45 PM at the Ridgway Swim Center
in Santa Rosa. The pool is located on Ridgway Avenue off of Mendocino Avenue right
next to Santa Rosa High School. Come to learn or tune up your roll, practice wet
exits and reentries, work on bracing, stroke techniques or just to connect with other
paddlers. The water is warm but the air is often cold, so wet suits, as well as PFD's
and helmets, are recommended. Paddlers must bring their own clean boats and gear,
instruction is not provided although advice and tips are available for the asking.
Showers are available. The fee is $5. The practice is co-sponsored by the Santa Rosa
Parks and Recreation Department. For info: pool_coord@sequoiapc.org or call
Sig, 292-4947.
Please e-mail Sig if you have any questions. Happy
paddling.
SIERRA CLUB ACTIVITIES
Saturday, October 2 - Trip Leader Training. (Non-trip Leaders welcome to come too.)
You are invited to attend our annual trip leader training, where current trip leaders have the
opportunity to meet potential trip leaders and everyone gets to participate in a day on
the river of information and skill sharing and learning.
The general layout of the day is to meet at Veteran's Memorial Park, on the Russian River in Healdsburg,
at 9 AM. You will bring your boat, any gear you would normally include for an all day trip
with other people, and your lunch.
We will all be taking turns "leading" the trip and a few role play scenarios
will occasionally unfold, intended as a fun way to get us thinking about how to
deal with the unruly and unexpected.
We will be taking out at the Wohler Bridge around 3 PM and then wrapping
up at Tom and Shane's house.
SP trip leaders need to be Sierra Club members, have current CPR and First Aid
certification, and complete Sierra Club Trip Leader Training 101. If you are a
potential leader and do not, as yet, have these: No Problem! You don't need them
in order to be part of the training. However, it is suggested that you familiarize
yourself with Sierra Club outings protocol by going online
at
www.sierraclub.org/outings/training/leadership/index.asp
before September 25.
I hope this date is convenient for you. Please let me know ASAP whether or not you are able to attend.
If you have any questions or know of anyone else who may be interested in leading SP
trips, please let me know: 707.887.7416 or

Thank you!

HAVE ROGUE PERMIT, SEEKING PARTICIPANTS:
I have a private permit for the Rogue River for Sunday August 8 for 8 people. So far myself
and another female kayaker are going, so there are potentially up to 6 slots available.
We would especially like to find someone with a raft with rowing frame to provide raft support.
I would like to do a relaxed 6 day trip which would include one lay-over day.
That would give us time to see the sights and hike up side creeks.
