The Sequoia Paddlers (SPC) is a section of the Redwood Chapter of the Sierra Club and an affiliate of the American Canoe Association, American Rivers, American Whitewater Affiliation, Friends Of the River, Friends of the Russian River, and the National Organization for River Sports.

The Sequoia Paddlers hosts program and outdoor meetings in Santa Rosa, California, and publishes a bimonthly newsletter. We offer trips, sponsor a weekly roll practice, have safety and instructional programs, and conduct various conservation projects.

The Sequoia Paddlers is devoted to the promotion of paddlesports and waterway conservation. Our goal is to have fun - safely! The means to that end is through activities and education.

What Sunscreen Is Best For Paddlers? Is your sunscreen actually protecting you like it promises? Of the 500 beach and sports sunscreens that EWG* analyzed for their 2010 Sunscreen Guide, they only recommend 8 percent of them. Between the false sense of security from sunscreens with an SPF of 50 or higher, and new data linking vitamin A to accelerated development of skin tumors and lesions, most products don't live up to their hype. In fact, EWG found that wearing a hat and shirt in the sun should be your first line of defense, then using an EWG recommended sunscreen.

HAVE ROGUE PERMIT, SEEKING PARTICIPANTS: I have a private permit for the Rogue River for Sunday August 8 for 8 people. So far myself and another female kayaker are going, so there are potentially up to 6 slots available. We would especially like to find someone with a raft with rowing frame to provide raft support.
I would like to do a relaxed 6 day trip which would include one lay-over day. That would give us time to see the sights and hike up side creeks.

"Birthright" by Sean Mullens -- it's only five minutes long. I first read about it on pg 14-15 in the June issue of Canoe & Kayak magazine. You have to see it: Birthright
